'Tortuga on TV' is a pet art (work of art made by up-cycling plastic), a response to serious environmental problems affecting wild life and people of indigenous Guna Yala, Panama. Excessive amount of trash is being washed up on the shore, where leatherback sea turtles come to nest their eggs.
Each collected bottle-top functions as a pixel which combines into one image of a sea turtle as on digital screens. Even though such environmental issues are mostly caused by cities, city people lack a sense of the reality as they access the problems through televisions and smartphones.
The work was processed within artist-in-residence at La Wayaka Current . After registration, it was installed on the turtle nest where turtles' eggs are kept protected until hatched. Not only a sign of the wild animal, the picture also works as a warning of trashes in the area.
