the movie is so bad that it's hard to know where to begin, because it seems to be conceived of as an epic tragedy that just happens to have been filmed in the context of a trailer. the action is sometimes in the midst of a crowded market square in iraq, with the camera zooming in and out to capture the scene. other times, it's a desert scene, but the aerial photography comes from a helicopter, which is both a bit odd, and somewhat like the aerial photography of some westerns. so there are scenes of a marketplace (the lovely palace at al-rashid park in baghdad) and a desert, but no one seems to be in either place. rather, it's a series of shots of a young woman walking up a flight of stairs, and i can't imagine why. more than that, it's almost impossible to tell what the characters are doing. i had no idea what was happening with the women; they were just walking up a staircase in a building, presumably fleeing from a sniper. they didn't speak english, so it was hard to tell what they were saying, but they obviously were not feeling well, and a phone rings, and they tell the person on the other end that "he has a gun to our heads, tell him to stop it." you might think that was a snippet from some thriller, but it's actually a line from the film.
